4 Netflix Thrillers to Watch Before They Leave in May

Hurry, because one of them is leaving next week!

Fiona Dourif as Nica in Cult of Chucky (2017).

Netflix is adding some exciting horror and thriller films throughout the month of May (which you can read about here). But as more movies join, others have to leave. Listed below are four dark thrillers/horror movies getting deleted from the Netflix library this month.

The Clovehitch Killer (2018)

Dylan McDermott in The Clovehitch Killer (2018).
Dylan McDermott (pictured) and Charlie Plummer star in this excellent serial-killer thriller.

Tyler lives in a small Kentucky town and has a relatively quiet life. His biggest frustration at the moment is that his father Don says that he can’t go to leadership camp for Scouts because money is tight. But Tyler’s worries escalate dramatically when he discovers something that leads him to realize that Don is the notorious local serial killer known as “Clovehitch.”

Ma (2019)

Octavia Spencer as Sue Ann "Ma" Ellington.
The development of Ma started with an idea that came up in a conversation between Octavia Spencer and director Tate Taylor.

Ma is one of the standout Blumhouse films from the 2010s. Octavia Spencer stars as Sue Ann, a woman who endears herself to some of the local high-school kids when she buys them alcohol and lets them party in her basement. But it isn’t long before Sue Ann, who wants the teens to call her “Ma,” starts acting strangely. As some of the teens try to pull away, Ma’s true nature begins to emerge.

Cult of Chucky (2017)

Fiona Dourif as Nica in Cult of Chucky (2017).
Fiona Dourif reprised her role as Nica for this sequel.

As the seventh film in the franchise, Cult of Chucky brings together pieces from movies dating all the way back to the 1988 original. The main part of the story is about Nica Pierce, the survivor of the previous film who is now being held in a psychiatric hospital for her “delusions” about a killer doll. Naturally it isn’t long before Chucky arrives to finish what he started with Nica, and he isn’t alone.

Unhinged (2020)

Russell Crowe as Tom Cooper in Unhinged (2020).
Russell Crowe is extremely angry as a driver with road rage in Unhinged.

The premise of Unhinged is simple; It’s about road rage taken to violent extremes. The story begins with Tom Cooper (Russell Crowe) murdering his ex-wife and her boyfriend. As he’s driving after the crime, Rachel (Caren Pistorius) honks at him while he’s blocking traffic with his truck. The honk escalates into stalking and more murder as Tom spirals into an unending rage.
