The Horror Movie That Defined the Lockdown Era is Now Streaming on Netflix

It’s like a time capsule with ghosts.

You can stream Host on Netflix now!

The lockdown era that began in 2020 was awful. But times of strife often lead to great art, and, for many people, Host is one of the films that best represented that period of history. Isolation, social anxiety, and fear were a part of our everyday lives, and Host evokes those feelings well.

Host was filmed and released while lockdowns were in place. The film was probably most effective during its initial release while we were all still trapped inside our homes, but it’s still a fun slice of screenlife if you’ve missed up until now. Here’s the trailer:

Host was filmed during quarantine, so all of the actors were responsible for their own lighting, effects, etc.

Host is about a group of friends who gather on a video call as a way of keeping touch during lockdown. For this get-together they plan to hold a virtual séance, but not everyone takes it seriously. Soon enough, spooky and violent things begin happening to each one of them.

With a few good scares and a running time of just under an hour, Host is a fun time and an easy watch. It’s perfect for late-night viewing on your own, preferably on a laptop or similar device. You know, whatever you do video chats on, that’s the best way to watch this movie.

Personally, I did think Host was a bit over-hyped when I saw it a few years ago, but now that time has passed I definitely appreciate it as a good horror film that uses the screenlife format very well. If you enjoy movies like Unfriended, you’ll probably enjoy Host just as much.

Host is now streaming on Netflix.
