Danny Boyle says the third 28 Years Later film is on the “back burner,” and an Antarctica-set movie is coming first. Boyle made the statement about the next installment of the 28 Years Later movies while doing a Q&A at the London Film Festival.

28 Years Later was planned as a trilogy, and Boyle even recently spoke about how the next movie in the series would have “a lot” of Cillian Murphy in it. But fans have speculated about the status of the next movie in the wake of The Bone Temple’s under-performance at the box office.

Deadline reported that Boyle says he “hopes” 28 Years Later 3 will be made if financing can be secured. But it’s apparently not a priority. His next film will be an Antarctica-set film. “That’s the next priority,” Boyle was quoted as saying.
