Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ Will Get a Theatrical Release Prior To Its Netflix Debut
This could be the definitive adaptation of Mary Shelley’s story.

Over the past few months, news has been trickling out about Guillermo del Toro’s new take on the classic tale of Frankenstein. Today, perhaps, comes the best news so far for those of us excited about the upcoming film; Frankenstein will now receive a limited theatrical release a few weeks before it lands on Netflix!
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein will begin playing in theaters on October 17th, 2025. Previously, the only official announcements about the movie’s release were about its Netflix premiere. Frankenstein is still scheduled to stream globally on Netflix on November 7th.
Checking various sites, it’s still too early to see exactly when and where Frankenstein will be playing in theaters, but we’ll be sure to let you know when we learn about tickets becoming available.
Frankenstein appears to be a passion project for filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. He’s expressed his admiration of Mary Shelley’s novel before, and the development of his film adaptation is years in the making.
Frankenstein stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, Mia Goth as Elizabeth Lavenza, and Jacob Elordi as the Creature. Prior to its general release in theaters, Frankenstein will make its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8th.
