Award-Winning Indie Slasher ‘New Fears Eve’ Sets Red Carpet Premiere Date
Tickets are available now for the special-event premiere of New Fears Eve taking place in Owensboro, Kentucky on June 15, 2024.
A new slasher will be stalking the streets of Kentucky soon as the horror-comedy New Fears Eve officially premieres in a red-carpet event in June!
New Fears Eve is a holiday-themed slasher comedy from Blood Moon Pictures. Directed by P.J. Starks and Eric Huskisson, New Fears Eve follows three best friends as they reluctantly decide to attend the New Year’s Eve office party thrown by the company they work for. As the hours inch closer to midnight, the party becomes a bloodbath when a masked serial killer known as The Doctor arrives unannounced.
New Fears Eve recently screened at the Chicago Horror Film Festival where it won the award for Best Horror Comedy. But it’s not just about the laughs. Slasher fans can also expect strong characters—brought to life by a great cast—and plenty of blood. When describing News Fears Eve, director P.J. Starks says, “We’ve definitely made a funny and gore-covered comedy horror flick. It has a very character driven plot, so if you want a good story it has that. If you want blood, you’ve got it. We’ve been told it’s Scream meets Clerks. That was an incredible compliment as Kevin Smith is a huge inspiration of mine.”
If you want to see for yourself, New Fears Eve will have its official red carpet premiere in Owensboro, Kentucky on Saturday, June 15, 2024. The premiere takes place in the 1,500 seat Cannon Hall theater in Owensboro’s RiverPark Center. There will be a Q&A session with the filmmakers after the movie, and members of the cast and crew will be in attendance for an after-party in the theater lobby with viewers. Check the Ticketbud site linked here for more information and to buy tickets.
The buzz surrounding New Fears Eve is just getting started, and attending the premiere in person is an opportunity you won’t want to pass up. “With the red carpet premiere right around the corner and our festival run just now kicking off, I couldn’t be more excited about everyone getting to see our holiday slasher,” says Starks. “Dread Central called our masked killer The Doctor ‘a new horror icon.’ I’m keeping my fingers crossed they’re right but I’ll let future fans and viewers decide that honor.” Will The Doctor be a new horror icon? With their creepy plague doctor mask and dapper attire, they certainly have the look for it.
The cast of New Fears Eve is an easy selling point for indie-horror fans. The movie features scream queen Felissa Rose whose most iconic role is as Angela in Sleepaway Camp (1983), and whose number roles in horror films over the past few decades is well over 100 and counting. Also featured is Dave Sheridan whose appearances as Doofy in Scary Movie (2000), Ray Dobson in The Devil’s Rejects (2005), and Dillon in Victor Crowley (2017) helped solidify his impressive horror credentials. Hannah Fierman (V/H/S, Siren) and Roni Jonah (Debbie Does Demons, Easter Casket) are also featured.
New Fears Eve stars relative newcomers Lily-Claire Harvey, Turner Vaughn, and Matthew Tichenor as the three best friends at the center of the chaos. In addition to codirecting the film, P.J. Starks and Eric Huskisson are both also producers, as are Felissa Rose and Jeffrey Reddick (the creator of Final Destination). Starks, who also wrote the New Fears Eve script, has nothing but praise for his crew, saying, “The cast and crew did an incredible job with some strong performances. It’s an indie film at heart that was made to look large in scope, and I feel like we succeeded on many levels.”
By all accounts, New Fears Eve sounds like a movie best watched with a crowd. Of the movie’s film-festival debut in early May, P.J. Starks says, “The recent screening in Chicago was awesome. The audience was engaged; yelling at the screen, squirming in their seats during kill sequences, laughing out loud and a couple of deaths damn near got standing ovations. We were humbled with a lot of praise following the film, even being told it was the highlight of the festival. We capped that off with securing the win for Best Horror Comedy which validated everything we’d been told.”
