‘New Fears Eve’ to Make Its NYC Debut at the 2024 New York City Horror Film Festival
Don’t miss this opportunity to see New Fears Eve on the big screen at one of the premier indie horror film festivals!
Earlier this year, indie slasher film New Fears Eve made its film festival debut, and it’s been delighting crowds and earning awards ever since. Now the horror-comedy is set to hit one of its biggest milestones as it makes its New York City premiere on December 6th, 2024!
New Fears Eve will screen as part of the New York City Horror Film Festival (NYCHFF), and you can purchase tickets right now from the NYC Horror Film Festival web site. All screenings will take place at the Look Dine-In Cinema on West 57th Street in Manhattan, and the festival runs from Thursday December 5th through Sunday December 8th. New Fears Eve screens in the 7:00 p.m. block (which also includes three short films) on Friday December 6th. Passes for the full event are available, or you can choose to buy tickets for individual screenings.
The NYC Horror Film Festival was established more than two decades ago, and it has been a major stop along the path to success for many independent horror films over the years. For example, just last year Faceless After Dark—one of Creepy Catalog’s highest rated indie horror films of this year—won the NYCHFF’s award for Best Feature. Could New Fears Eve continue its own success with a big win at the festival in 2024?
P.J. Starks, the producer and co-director of New Fears Eve, shared with us his thoughts about the importance of having a successful festival run for an indie horror film: “Having a great festival run is important because it gives you a pretty solid gauge as to how your film will be received. We had a very successful premiere, but you never get a true indication because so many in attendance have an emotional tie to the film. But when a room with hundreds of strangers watch the film and laugh out loud, jump out of their seats or cover their eyes you know you’ve made something that resonates. Festivals also open doors to not only network with other filmmakers, but companies looking for IP’s are sometimes in attendance and that’s a rare opportunity.”
P.J. Starks and his co-director and co-producer Eric Huskisson will both be in attendance at the NYCHFF to present their film during the screening. Both filmmakers, who make up the film production company Blood Moon Pictures, have been hitting the road this year to attend conventions and festivals in support of New Fears Eve, and Starks had this to say about seeing his how his film plays in front of an audience: “New Fears Eve has been a treat to watch with a theater crowd. You hope audiences will enjoy your film and so far the reaction has been very positive. Lots of laughs, lots of disgusted groans and lots of applause during certain kills. Of course, you can’t please everyone but the feedback has been very kind. It got a great reaction at Kevin Smith’s SModcastle Film Festival in New Jersey. That same weekend the film screened at Horror at the Ohio to a packed house.”
Starks added that after the Horror at the Ohio festival screening in October, Felissa Rose—who is a producer of New Fears Eve in addition to appearing in the film—texted him, saying, “It was fantastic! Big crowd and they loved it! You literally killed it. Seriously amazing!”
In addition to scream queen Felissa Rose, the cast of New Fears Eve includes Dave Sheridan (The Devil’s Rejects, Scary Movie), Hannah Fierman (V/H/S, Siren), and Roni Jonah (Debbie Does Demons, Easter Casket). The film stars Lily-Claire Harvey, Turner Vaughn, and Matthew Tichenor as three best friends who attend a New Year’s Eve office Party that is crashed by a masked serial killer known as The Doctor.
If you can make it to the NYC Horror Film on December 6th, definitely make a point to see New Fears Eve. And stick around to see the other movies playing all weekend. Not only will you be helping support indie horror, but you’ll be putting a smile on the face of at least one filmmaker. P.J. Starks shared one more bit of information with us, talking about his excitement for his film’s New York City Premiere: “I’ve had a previous short of mine screen in NYC, but I wasn’t able to be there. Having a premiere in New York City for our holiday slasher and during Christmas time no less, is just too perfect. I can’t wait to see what happens when The Doctor takes Manhattan.”
