Few horror franchises have earned the loyalty and acclaim of The Conjuring series. The first trailer for Last Rites, the final chapter, just dropped, and I’m nervous, but not because I doubt the scares.
What made the original Conjuring unforgettable was its fusion of cosmic horror with a grounded, human story. Judging by the trailer, Last Rites looks ready to unleash every haunted artifact in the Warrens’ vault, but I worry it might lose the emotional core that set this franchise apart. I’m all for creepy relics, but if spectacle outweighs story, Last Rites risks becoming just another spooky sideshow.
Still, I’ll be there opening night when Last Rites hits theaters on September 5, hoping the finale remembers what made The Conjuring a classic in the first place.
