The Worst ‘Friday the 13th’ Movie Now Has a Great 4K UHD Edition, Released Today (May 20) by Arrow Video

You can upgrade Jason Goes to Hell with this new release, but do you really want to?

The Limited Edition 4K UHD release of Jason Goes to Hell is now on sale.

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) is the worst entry in the Friday the 13th franchise. I don’t think that’s a terribly controversial statement. Despite a vocal minority of dissenters, the overall consensus seems to be that Jason Goes to Hell is largely a failure when it comes to continuing the legacy of the series.

Jason goes through a lot of changes in this movie.

If you enjoy Jason Goes to Hell, great! I’m sure you have your reasons. I have my own reasons for why it’s a terrible sequel, and I might share them here sometime in the future if anyone cares to know them. But that’s not what this article is about.

For now, we can agree to disagree about the quality of The Final Friday. What I think most of us can agree on is that Arrow Video puts out some fantastic releases on physical media, and that’s what I’m here to tell you about today.

On May 20th, 2025, Arrow Video released a Limited Edition 4k UHD version of Jason Goes to Hell. The set comes with two 4K discs, one with the theatrical cut and the other with the unrated cut. Both discs are loaded with archival footage, interviews, and commentary, some of which also appears on the Scream Factory Blu-ray release that was included with their Friday the 13th deluxe box set released in 2020.

The packaging looks great!

There are also new special features on the Arrow release, including interviews from makeup effects creator Robert Kurtzman, actor Julie Michaels, and composer Harry Manfredini, as well as a new audio commentary with film historians Michael Felsher and Steve Barton.

Also included on the physical side is a two-sided poster with the original chrome-mask artwork and new art from Gary Pullin, a slipcover featuring Pullin’s art, and a booklet with production notes and an essay from J.A. Kerswell.

All in all, it looks like another fabulous release from Arrow. If you’re a huge fan of Jason Goes to Hell, this is worth picking up as a 4K upgrade even if you already own the movie on previous formats.

Jason X is going to be a little more difficult (and expensive) to get.

Alternatively, if you prefer Jason X (2001) as your oddball Friday the 13th of choice, Arrow also has a 4K release for that movie, also available today. Check out the full specs for both releases here:

Both releases are sold out on the official site, but Jason Goes to Hell in stock on Amazon for now. Jason X looks like it’s only available through resellers at the moment:
