Watcher (2022) is a horror movie about what happens when a woman correctly identifies a dangerous man and no one around her believes her or cares.
Julia (Maika Monroe), an American who has just moved to Bucharest with her boyfriend, notices a figure in the window across the street who seems to be watching her. She connects him to news reports about a local serial killer and goes to the police. Both the officers and her partner respond as if the problem is her hysteria, not the man.

They think she is just crazy. She is isolated in a new city, she doesn’t speak the language, she is home alone too much, she is letting a story get into her head. At one point her boyfriend tells her, “I’m tired of feeling like this because you can’t let go of some f-cking fantasy.”
The film stays with that disbelief for most of its running time.
Julia keeps gathering reasons to be afraid, and the people closest to her keep offering calmer explanations, until the danger is no longer something she has to convince anyone of.
By then the warning has already been wasted. The horror isn’t only the man in the window. It’s how long a woman’s account of him can be ignored.
