3 Creepy Home Invasion Movies That Are Streaming for Free in May 2025

“Have you checked the children?”

When a Stranger Calls (1979) is a classic horror movie about a creepy killer sneaking into someone’s house.

Home invasions are scary because home is supposed to be our safe space. It’s where we are most vulnerable, especially if the home invasion occurs at night when we are sleeping. These horror movies will trigger existing home invasion fears and create new triggers around what may be going bump in the night.

Each horror movie on this list is currently (as of May 2025) streaming on the free service Tubi. You don’t even need to sign up for an account to watch these movies, links are provided below.

Hush (2016)

Hush (2016) is a twist on a home invasion movie where the protagonist is deaf and mute.

Hush follows a young author, Maddie, who has hearing loss and is also unable to speak. Maddie has recently moved to a cabin in the woods and is working on her next book. When a masked man begins stalking Maddie, her disabilities affect how she is able to fight back.

High Tension (2003)

A warning: High Tension is violent, bloody and relentless.

While the home invasion in High Tension is only the first half of this movie, the sequence is among the scariest home invasion scenes in the genre. Marie and Alex travel to Alex’s parent’s farmhouse for a weekend away from their studies. Just hours after their arrival, the home is invaded by a serial killer.

When a Stranger Calls (1979)

Carol Kane in When a Stranger Calls.

The plot of When a Stranger Calls will be familiar even if you haven’t heard of the movie. Carol Kane stars as a young woman who receives threatening phone calls while babysitting one evening. She contacts the police who trace the call and warn her “the call is coming from inside the house!”

The sequel, When a Stranger Calls Back (1993), is surprisingly good and is also streaming on Tubi.
