The Best Forgotten Thriller of the 90s is Now Streaming on Netflix

“Did you know, Helen, that more books have been written about Jack the Ripper than Abraham Lincoln? It’s a sick world, isn’t it, Helen?”

Harry Connick Jr. as a remorseless killer in Copycat (1995).

Netflix’s latest addition to their top ten is a forgotten 90s psychological thriller about the hunt for a violent serial killer. Copycat (1995) is likely a hit with streamers because of it’s star-studded cast, the intrigue of a whodunit mystery and because it’s just a good, suspenseful movie. Should you check out Copycat while it’s part of Netflix’s catalog? Read on.

First, what is Copycat about? Dr. Helen Hudson (Sigourney Weaver) is a renowned expert on serial killers who is attacked by escaped serial killer Daryll Lee Cullum (Harry Connick Jr.) at a lecture. Afterwards, Dr. Hudson develops severe agoraphobia (fear of leaving her home) and uses her computer to communicate with the outside world. Homicide detectives M.J. Monahan (Holly Hunter) and Reuben Goetz (Dermot Mulroney) try to convince her to venture out of her apartment in order to help them solve a series of murders which are “copycat” crimes of famous cases Dr. Hudson has studied.

Here’s the trailer:

Who should watch Copycat? Anyone with an interest in serial killers will probably like Copycat. Fans of psychological thrillers and detective movies will like Copycat. If you’re one of the 5 million people who read A.J. Finn’s The Woman in the Window, you’ll definitely like Copycat.

The people who won’t like Copycat probably already know they dislike 90’s crime procedurals already. So, if you loved movies like Kiss the Girls (1997), Se7en (1995), Basic Instinct (1992) and Double Jeopardy (1999), you’ll probably also love Copycat.

Copycat is currently streaming on Netflix.
