Ghostface Targets Sidney Prescott and Her Daughter In the ‘Scream 7’ Trailer
Ghostface promises to “burn it all down” as he is shown setting fire to Stu Macher’s home.
Just in time for Halloween the trailer for the seventh Scream movie has been released.
The trailer seems to show that the opening scene will feature a couple renting out Stu Macher’s home, which is now an AirBnb. Ghostface (apparently) kills them and then turns his attention towards terrorizing Sidney Prescott and her daughter (Neve Campbell and Isabel May). The big questions the trailer raises is, of course, who is Ghostface this time, what’s his (or her) beef with Sidney now, and how will the movie incorporate the past Scream actors who have been contracted to return (see below)?
Here’s the trailer:
Of course, the road to Scream 7 has been incredibly rocky. Franchise star Melissa Barrera was unceremoniously fired for voicing support for Palestine on her Instagram account. Barrera’s Sam Carpenter was the central character in the new Scream movies and Scream VI hinted that she may turn into the franchise’s villain in future films. Skeet Ulrich had even returned to goad his character’s daughter into following in his psycho killer footsteps.

After Barrera’s firing, fans called for a fan boycott. Slowly, Scream 7 started taking shape anyway. Franchise creator Kevin Williamson was brought on to direct. Neve Campbell was (finally) paid her worth to return. A handful of fan favorite characters were hired to appear (in some capacity as some of these characters are dead): Matthew Lillard as Stu Macher, David Arquette as Dewey Riley and Scott Foley as Sidney’s half-brother Roman Bridger. Courtney Cox and half of the “core four”, Jasmine Savoy-Brown and Mason Gooding, will also reprise their roles as Gale Weathers and the Meeks-Martin twins. Roger L. Jackson will return as the iconic voice of Ghostface.

Earlier this year, screenwriter Guy Busick talked to ComicBook.com about what we can expect to see in Scream 7, saying “There is a really specific reason why Sidney is in this movie… In all these movies, you have to ask, ‘Why now? What is the thing Scream is commenting on now?’ Scream is always in a conversation with the audience about the state of movies, the state of horror movies and in particular, franchises.”

The original Scream introduced the “rules of horror movies” and poked fun at genre tropes. Subsequent installments satirized toxic fans, sequels, trilogies, requels and legacy sequels (or “legacyquels”). Based on this, Scream 7 could be a commentary on current trends in horror like the rise of body horror, analog horror, viral marketing campaigns, FilmTok influencers, or even the trend of promotional popcorn buckets.
We’ll find out together when Scream 7 hits theaters on February 27, 2026.
