Ridley Scott’s filmmaking process rattled Josh Brolin so badly that he panicked one day into filming “The Dog Stars.” He calmed down eventually, but he still calls the director’s method “stratospherically creative and stratospherically dangerous.”

Brolin told Empire Magazine he “got really scared” during his first day on the post-apocalyptic sci-fi, enough to call his agent and say he wanted out. Things settled down and he stayed on the film.

“The Dog Stars” comes from Ridley Scott and Disney’s 20th Century Studios, adapted by Mark L. Smith from Peter Heller’s 2012 novel. It’s set after a flu pandemic wipes out most of humanity, following a former civilian pilot and an ex Marine.

Jacob Elordi took over the lead after Paul Mescal, Scott’s original pick, dropped out over scheduling conflicts with the Beatles biopics. Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley and Guy Pearce round out the cast.

The film hits theaters Aug. 28.
