The world premiere of Catherine Zeta-Jones’s 8-episode revenge thriller Kill Jackie took place at Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The gala screened episodes 1 and 2, while a crowd outside applauded arriving cast members.

Zeta-Jones plays Jackie Price, a former international drug trafficker who’s living quietly as a luxury art dealer. When an elite hit squad called the Seven Demons targets her, Jackie draws on old skills and dark-web contacts to hunt its members one by one. Zeta-Jones has described the character as dangerous, vulnerable, comedic and a “badass”; the role is her first on-screen use of her Welsh accent.

Bilbao was more than the premiere’s setting: 78% of the show’s filming locations were in Bilbao and Bizkaia during a 20-week shoot in 2025, when most filming took place. Sites included the Guggenheim and San Juan de Gaztelugatxe; the Getxo cruise terminal doubled as an airport for an explosion scene. The provincial government estimated the production’s regional economic impact at 258 million euros using a 9x multiplier, rather than measuring that figure as direct production spending.

Zeta-Jones stayed in Getxo partly for golf. She said, “Bilbao no es solo el Guggenheim, tiene de todo” (“Bilbao is not just the Guggenheim, it has everything”) and “Mi tiempo aquí fue especial y sorprendente” (“My time here was special and surprising”).

The series adapts Nick Harkaway’s 2018 novel The Price You Pay, published under his pen name Aidan Truhen. Harkaway, the late John le Carré’s son, served as executive consultant. Damon Thomas (Killing Eve) directs, and Tom Butterworth is the showrunner. Alongside starring, Zeta-Jones is an executive producer.

On October 2, HBO Max premieres the show in Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium and the Nordic territories, including Iceland. Prime Video releases the full 8-episode season that day in the UK, Germany, Canada and other territories, while AMC+ begins a weekly rollout in the US.
