I remember seeing images for Jump Scare quite a while ago, and I’ve REALLY been looking forward to its release. The trailer looks awesome, kind of like a mid-90s indie horror movie with its visual style, but also with an older grindhouse sensibility when it comes to the fun and horror.

The story focuses on an all-female metal band called Jump Scare. They retreat to a remote cabin to write their next album, but they’re soon terrorized by the cannibal family next door.

The official description accompanying the trailer says Jump Scare is “part phantasmagoric homage to filmmakers like Don Coscarelli and Chuck Russell, part punk-rock ode to grindhouse slasher cinema, and a post-modern cannibal film.”

Donnie Hobbie wrote and directed Jump Scare. The movie stars Shannon Dang (CW’s Kung Fu), Erin Ruth Walker (Which Brings Me To You), Madison Abbott (Grotesquerie), Natasha Estrada (Your Mom), Chelsea Talmadge (Stranger Things), and Eric Roberts (naturally).

Jump Scare will be heading out on the road in November for what they call a “Halloween Hangover Tour.” It’s a theatrical roadshow with the filmmakers in attendance. It begins November 12 with locations and more dates to follow. There’s a preview of the tour happening on October 25 at Brain Dead Studios in Los Angeles. There’s no announced digital release date yet, but it’s expected to be available to rent in December, with a streaming release coming in early 2027. If we learn about any updates for digital and theatrical, we’ll make an update.
