Drop

Meghann Fahy stars in Drop.

It’s still in theaters, but you can now watch Christopher Landon’s Drop at home! The story follows a single mother on her first date in a very long time. An anonymous person sends her texts which instruct her to do a series of increasingly sinister tasks. If she doesn’t comply, her son and sister will be killed.

Death of a Unicorn

Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd lead the excellent cast of Death of a Unicorn.

Elliot and his daughter Ridley are on their way to the country estate of a family who accumulated their wealth through pharmaceuticals. Before they arrive, Elliot accidentally hits an animal with his car. That animal is a unicorn, and Elliot decides to put the poor creature out of its misery and take the body with him to dispose of it later. However, the unicorn isn’t dead, and its parents are not happy about what has transpired. Death of a Unicorn is gory fun, even though the story is lacking.

Project MKHEXE

Project MKHEXE is a Screambox exclusive.

Project MKHEXE is a pseudo-documentary conspiracy thriller about a filmmaker trying to piece together what really happened to his younger brother. Sean supposedly killed himself, but his brother Tim thinks his death has something to do with the conspiracy/urban legend he was researching, Project MKHEXE (an allusion to MKUltra). Tim documents his own search for the truth, but he might be headed down the same rabbit hole as Sean.

The Last Cabin

Director Brendan Rudnicki also directed the similarly themed found-footage horror movie The Girl in Cabin 13 (2021).

Refreshing in its simplicity, The Last Cabin aims for a lean and tense found footage experience. It’s about a trio of filmmakers who think they’ve found the perfect site for their next project. But when night falls, they are accosted by masked home invaders intent on murder.

Bitter Souls

A teenage girl is brought back from the dead, seeking to make her tormentors pay with their lives. Bitter Souls features an appearance from Michael Hargrove (Candyman 2021).

Big Freaking Rat

Judging from older articles and reviews, Big Freaking Rat appears to have had a smaller release back in 2020.

Toxic waste in a state park turns a normal rat into a Big Freaking Rat. Now the rat is on a violent rampage and… you get the idea. The writer and director of Big Freaking Rat has three Amityville movies in his IMDB resume, including The Amityville Harvest (2020), The Amityville Moon (2021), and Amityville Uprising (2022).
