Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are returning as Rick and Evie O’Connell in The Mummy: Book of the Dead, scheduled to reach theaters on October 15, 2027. Universal Pictures announced the title on October 15, 2026, but hasn’t revealed the plot.

The film is described as a continuation of the earlier Mummy movies. Its cast also includes John Hannah, Michael Johnston, Numan Acar, Kevin J. O’Connor and Oded Fehr.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the directing duo known as Radio Silence, will direct from David Coggeshall’s screenplay. They’ve offered a sense of the tone while keeping the story’s specifics private.

Gillett said earlier this year: “Having stepped into Scream, our radar for jumping into another franchise is that it has to feel special. And [David Coggeshall’s] script really does that. It is very beautiful and sweeping and scary and fun.”
Bettinelli-Olpin also connected the stars’ involvement to the screenplay: “I don’t think Brendan and Rachel are getting involved unless they love that script, and what they read, I think they really liked. It’s a good script. It’s gonna be fun to make.”
The 1999 film paired Fraser’s adventurer Rick with Weisz’s librarian Evelyn and her brother Jonathan, played by Hannah. Their search for Hamunaptra led to the awakening of the cursed high priest Imhotep.
The Mummy earned $415.9 million worldwide on an $80 million budget; 2001’s The Mummy Returns followed with $436.5 million worldwide on a $98 million budget.
