Dave Franco and Alison Brie First Locked Eyes at the ‘Scream 4’ Auditions
“Only one of us got the job.”

Dave Franco and Alison Brie have been on a very fun press tour for their new body horror movie, Together. We’ve seen the real life couple talk about everything from what Alison’s feet taste like to how Franco’s two 18-pound cats moved into Alison’s home before he did. The interviews have highlighted the couple’s sense of humor, light-hearted approach to life and refreshingly wholesome love for each other.
Hot Ones host Sean Evans interviewed the couple on behalf of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, while the three perused pieces of the Academy’s Collection at the Margaret Herrick Library. Obsessing over movie memorabilia, both Franco and Brie expressed their love for the horror genre and the Scream franchise in particular. They also revealed that the Scream 4 audition was the first time the two locked eyes in real life.
It’s the most accessible horror movie. The characters are great. The comedy is on point. It’s arguable the most effective horror comedy that nails both sides of that genre.

However, as Brie noted, only one of them actually landed a role in the film. Brie portrayed Rebecca Walters, Sidney Prescott’s publicist who helps with her book tour for the memoir Out of Darkness. Rebecca was a cold-hearted, money hungry character in the lineage of Gale Weathers, who is dispatched by Ghostface himself in a hospital parking garage. Franco didn’t disclose which Scream 4 role he was auditioning for, but my guess would be Robbie Mercer’s fast-talking cinema club vice president role that ended up going to Erik Knudsen:

While the couple first saw each other at these auditions, it wasn’t until they saw each other again at the airport in New Orleans that they exchanged numbers and made plans to hang out for the first time. While celebrating Mardi Gras that weekend, Brie offered Franco a beer spiked with Molly (which she disclosed to him) and the two partied and kissed. The rest is history and the couple has been together ever since.
Franco and Brie’s new movie, Together, stars the duo as a married couple at a crossroads. They move to the country and encounter a supernatural force that changes their minds and bodies. Together is in theaters now.
