Ellen Burstyn is done with The Exorcist. Asked about Mike Flanagan’s upcoming The Exorcist: Martyrs, the 93-year-old actress said, “Isn’t there enough already of the ‘Exorcist’ thing? It’s enough already.”
She made the comment to Variety in October 2026 while talking about her new book, published in April, when the interviewer raised the subject of Flanagan’s film.

Burstyn played Chris MacNeil in the original 1973 The Exorcist, and she reprised the role in 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer. Chris MacNeil is a character her name will always be attached to, but she doesn’t seem too attached to the franchise anymore.
At 93, she has had a long and successful year. She is just a Grammy away from an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony), and she might get that “G” with her narration of the audiobook version of her recently released book, Poetry Says It Better: Poems to Help You Wake Up.
Flanagan’s The Exorcist: Martyrs will be in theaters March 12, 2027.
Ellen Burstyn’s book and audiobook, Poetry Says It Better: Poems to Help You Wake Up, is currently available everywhere.
