Mouthwashing is a psychological horror game about the crew of a crashed spaceship. The captain was gravely injured, and his motives and actions that led to the crash are questioned by the crew. As time goes by, supplies begin to run out as tension among the crew increases. There are many dark scenes and themes which increase dramatically as the game plays out through its non-linear narrative.
The game was originally released in 2024, and it received tons of acclaim. It was originally released on Windows via Steam initially, and it’s now available on consoles as of October 29, 2026.
The plot of the film adaptation isn’t known at this time, but hopefully it will stick close to the game. The movie will be directed by Karyn Kusama, the director of movies including Jennifer’s Body (2009), Destroyer (2018), and The Invitation (2015). Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay (writers of The Invitation and Destroyer) will pen the script for Mouthwashing.
