Lili Reinhart says she has a specific lesbian-vampire novella she wants to bring to the screen, though she hasn’t revealed its title. “There is a book, it’s a novella, that I’m trying to get adapted that is about lesbian vampires,” she told Hits Radio. “And people are too afraid to make that.”

She appealed directly to anyone working at a studio: “I don’t know why you wouldn’t make that in this day and age.” She ended the answer by saying, “That’s what I’m trying to do.” No studio rejection has been named publicly.

In a separate part of the interview, Reinhart explained why queer roles interest her personally. “I’m instantly way more interested in doing a movie if my character is a little gay cuz I’m a little gay,” she said. Reinhart publicly came out as bisexual in 2020 and said in July 2026 that she wants more bisexual lead characters whose sexuality isn’t treated as a joke.

Some have speculated that the unnamed story is Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu’s 1872 novella “Carmilla,” about a young woman pursued by a female vampire. Reinhart hasn’t confirmed that theory, and “Carmilla” has already inspired several adaptations, including a 2015 web series and a 2019 film.

Hits Radio posted the interview on September 23 while promoting “The Love Hypothesis,” the Prime Video adaptation starring and executive produced by Reinhart.
