Speaking to Bloody Disgusting ahead of the premiere of the third season of The Creep Tapes, franchise creators Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass discussed the future of Peachfuzz and the potential of a third film:
Patrick Brice: “We never want it to end. I think it will end in our actual deaths. Creep 3 is definitely something we still talk about.”
Mark Duplass: “When it comes to Creep 3, frankly, we just haven’t come up with it yet. When we do, we’ll bring it forward, and hopefully there will be a Creep 4 and a Creep 5 — there’s got to be a movie that’s just called Peachfuzz. We’re working on it, with the only limit being our own creative ability.”
The way Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice spoke about The Creep Tapes, they use it like a “sketchbook” for ideas they come up with for the character they first unleashed upon the world in 2014 with the movie Creep. Smaller ideas often make it into the show, while bigger ideas could potentially lead to more movies in the franchise.
It really sounds like Creep and The Creep Tapes are labors of love for the two of them. A beloved creative outlet for their creative minds. It’s something they repeatedly visit when they’re on break or between other projects, which helps keep the ideas fresh and exciting for them. And that helps make the stories they create feel fresh and exciting for fans.
I also got the impression from their discussion with Bloody Disgusting they’re not necessarily making The Creep Tapes to fulfill an order for a contracted number of episodes. Rather, they make it when inspiration strikes and they have a story they want to tell.
An audience can often tell when filmmakers are having fun, and twelve years into the Creep franchise, it still feels like Duplass and Brice are having fun with it.
