Mikey Madison May Star in A24’s Next Gothic Horror Movie
The dual role would see Madison playing twins, one rich and one poor.

Mikey Madison is the only Oscar-winner to don the Ghostface mask in the Scream franchise. She portrayed obsessed fan/deranged killer Amber Freeman in Scream (2022) and then went on to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Anora (2024). Now, the actress is in talks to return to the genre as a dual character in A24’s upcoming adaptation of The Masque of the Red Death.
The Masque of the Red Death is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. It follows wealthy nobles who enjoy a masquerade party in a locked castle while the poor die from a plague outside. A mysterious visitor dressed as a plague victim appears at the party and is confronted by the host. Fans who aren’t familiar with the Poe story may recognize elements of The Masque of the Red Death from Mike Flanagan’s Netflix series The Fall of the House of Usher, which drew inspiration from many Poe stories.
A24’s adaptation is based on a highly sought-after screenplay by Charlie Polinger, who will also direct and executive produce the project. Madison would replace Sydney Sweeney, who had to back out in order to film season 3 of Euphoria. The dual role would see Madison playing twins, one rich and one poor. Filming will begin at the end of 2025 or early 2026.
