Netflix is Purging Black Mirror’s ‘Bandersnatch’ Episode For Good

Bandersnatch will be deleted on May 12.

Netflix quietly marked Bandersnatch as “Leaving May 12”.

In 2018 Netflix released one of the most popular episodes of the dystopian anthology series Black Mirror. Bandersnatch is an interactive episode where viewers could choose from various paths the protagonist, programmer Stefan Butler (Fionn Whitehead), could take. The episode won two Primetime Emmy awards for Outstanding Television Movie and Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media Within a Scripted Program.

In order to host the episode, Netflix created a custom program to allow different versions of the episode to play based on the user’s choices. They subsequently talked about the difficulty of creating the technical ability to host interactive content, and said they wouldn’t be “building these kinds of experiences” going forward. Now, Netflix is deleting existing interactive content. Bandersnatch will be deleted on May 12, 2025.

Will Poulter reprises his Bandersnatch role as Colin Ritman in the “Plaything” episode of Black Mirror‘s seventh season.

A sequel episode to Bandersnatch was released as part of Black Mirror season 7. The episode, Plaything, brings back the characters Mohan Thakur (Asim Chaudhry) and Colin Ritman (Will Poulter). It will remain on Netflix indefinitely.

Until May 12 you can watch Bandersnatch and Plaything on Netflix.
