Pinocchio Unstrung is now available to rent and buy digitally in the U.S.! As of this post, the prices on different streaming platforms vary. Fandango at Home appears to have the best price at the moment, though by the time you read the prices might have been changed to be more uniform across the board.
Pinocchio Unstrung is the latest movie in the ever-growing Twisted Childhood Universe (aka The Poohniverse).
The movie is a dark(er) reimagining of the classic Pinocchio story. The film focuses on a teenage boy named James who is orphaned when his parents die in a car crash. James is bullied, and his only friends are taken from him. So, his grandfather Geppetto makes a sentient wooden puppet named Pinocchio to be James’s new best friend who will never leave him.
Pinocchio is devoted to James and wants to protect him. He also wants to be a real boy. The puppet comes to the conclusion that murder can accomplish both of these goals.
Horror stars Richard Brake and Robert Englund appear in Pinocchio Unstrung as Geppetto and the Talking Cricket, respectively (voice only for Robert). James is played by Cameron Bell, and he’s joined by Jude-Evan Lloyd as the voice of Pinocchio, and Emma Tate as the voice of the Wood Mother. Also in the cast are Jessica Balmer, Jack Art Gray, Toni Olabanji, Luca Marandola, Mya Brown, Karolina Knight, and Elliott Spilling.
There are a few direct connections to the wider Poohniverse in the movie. Scott Chambers reprises his role of Christopher Robin from Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, and Peter DeSouza-Feighoney once again plays Michael Darling who was previously in Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare.
Rhys Frake-Waterfield wrote and directed Pinocchio Unstrung. Rhys also directed both of the Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey movies.
Pinocchio Unstung was released in North American theaters on July 24, 2026, and it landed on VOD services on August 25, 2026.
