Steven Soderbergh Is Taking Over the Batman Part II for Its Final Weeks of Filming, and Matt Reeves Says He Isn’t Leaving

Steven Soderbergh will take over as director of The Batman Part 2 for the final few weeks of principal photography, and Matt Reeves says he isn’t leaving the project.

Reeves is directing and co-writing The Batman Part 2, just as he directed and co-wrote 2022’s The Batman. He has had to take time away for a personal family matter. Soderbergh will step in to complete the final few weeks of filming.

A statement released by the studio says that “Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and crew to fulfill Matt’s vision of the film.”

Reeves also posted on Twitter that he is not leaving the project for good. He wrote, “Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part II. I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography. Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes.”

The situation brings to mind what happened with Zack Snyder, Joss Whedon, and The Justice League. Regardless of what anyone thinks about how their respective versions of the movie ended up, the whole thing was a mess. But it sounds like The Batman Part 2 won’t get to that point.

The important thing right now is sending best wishes to Matt Reeves and his family. The Batman will get here when he gets here, and the movie will surely be great.
