The first Desert Fiends movie was released last year, and I can’t say I was the biggest fan of it. But comedy, like horror, is extremely subjective, and the brand of comedy offered just wasn’t for me. Clearly many people enjoyed Desert Fiends, because hundreds of people helped crowdfund the sequel with over $165,000.
If the comedy in Desert Fiends 2 is like the first one (and the trailer suggests that it is), get ready for lots of dumb, goofy humor with plenty of body-part and bodily-fluid humor. And I’m not just talking about blood, though there will be buckets of that as well.
The story of Desert Fiends 2 depicts a converging of groups with ultra-violent results. First are the fiends themselves, a family of comically mutated killers. Then there are the bounty hunters tracking the fiends down to kill them. And then there’s a group of social media influencers having a desert meet-up who the fiends want to kill. Eventually, I assume, they’ll all come together and the gore will flow.
Desert Fiends 2 is from director Shawn C. Phillips (Amityville Karen, Amityville Bigfoot, Amityville Shark House). Shawn co-wrote the script with Ethan Phillips (Skate to Hell). Both Shawn and Ethan served the same roles on the first Desert Fiends.
The cast of Desert Fiends 2 is expansive: Eric Roberts, Robert Carradine, Ginger Lynn Allen, Vanessa Angel, Kansas Bowling, Kato Kaelin, Martin Klebba, Robert LaSardo, Tracy Wise, Brett Wagner, James DeBello, and the list goes on.
