At the risk of reigniting a new wave of Resident Evil discourse and everything that comes with it, I’m just bringing this up to say that I’m happy Zach Cregger is looking forward to moving on.

In the interview with A Shot (published Oct. 16, 2026), Cregger referred to the “cultural expectation” that comes with making a movie in a long-established franchise as “unpleasant.”

He said it was “a thrill” writing the Resident Evil script, but the thrill only lasted as long as the writing phase. As progress moved towards production and the world knew he would be making a Resident Evil movie, he says that the biggest part of the conversation surrounding the movie was about “all these things that really weren’t about the movie itself.”

As for his next movie, The Flood, nobody knows much about it. Jennifer Lawrence is attached to star, it will be a sci-fi film, and it’s set for release on August 11, 2028. Cregger didn’t spill any details about the plot, but he did say, “I think it’s my most human story. It’s my weirdest movie. It is scary, I think, but it’s also structurally bizarre, but not in the way that Weapons and Barbarian are, in a new way that, to me, I’m the most excited about.”
