4 Scary Clown Movies to Watch if You’re Excited About ‘Clown in a Cornfield’

Horror can be a divisive genre but one thing we can all agree on is the fact that clowns are creepy. Scary clown movies date all the way back to 1924 when the silent psychological thriller film He Who Gets Slapped featured Lon Chaney as an unsettling clown. In modern horror, the most famous scary clown is Pennywise, one of the corporeal forms of the title character in Stephen King’s It (1990), It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019).

Now, a new scary clown named Frendo will be introduced to horror fans in Clown in a Cornfield, a slasher movie about an economically declining small town and their clown mascot. Clown in a Cornfield is now in theaters and these movies can be watched in anticipation, or after viewing the movie to keep the creepy clown vibes going.
Stephen King’s It (1990)

Based on the lengthy novel by Stephen King, It tells the story of a group of seven lonely kids in Derry, Maine who encounter an evil entity. Narrowly escaping It as children, the friends are called back to Derry 27 years later when the entity reemerges. The miniseries has a run time of three hours and twelve minutes which just makes it a long movie by 2025 standards.
Terrifier (2016)

Art the Clown is the scariest modern horror movie clown. In Terrifier, he stalks two women on Halloween night. The Terrifier franchise is known for brutal kill scenes with plenty of gore, so this is not for squeamish horror fans.
Terrifier 2 is also streaming on Tubi.
It (2017)

The 2017 It is another adaptation of the Stephen King novel. The plot is the same as the 1990 miniseries, this time with Swedish actor Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise. The It miniseries, It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019) are all streaming on Max.
Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor (2023)

This is a found footage prequel to Hell House LLC (2015) about a group of people investigating a manor where a mysterious family murder took place in 1989. In the manor are three clown mannequins who appear to move on their own and terrorize the crew. The upcoming horror movie Hell House LLC: Lineage released a teaser trailer showing that it will also feature at least one scary clown.
