Sinners
Sinners might turn out to be the best horror movie of the year. On the day of its wide theatrical release, Sinners has a 98% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and a 97% rating on the Popcornmeter. So if you’re looking for one movie to make a trip to the theater this weekend to see, this should probably be it. The story is set in 1930s Mississippi, and it is about twin brothers (both played by Michael B. Jordan) who open a juke joint, only to have it swarmed by vampires.
The Ugly Stepsister
Not to be outdone by Sinners, but The Ugly Stepsister currently has a 96% fresh rating based on 79 critic reviews. And just judging by the trailer, it looks awesome! It’s a dark twist on a Cinderella story, in which a woman goes to horrific lengths to compete with her stepsister for the prince’s affections.
The Shrouds
The Shrouds is the latest film from visionary filmmaker David Cronenberg, someone who has never shied away from dark stories. In the film, Karsh Relikh (Vincent Cassel) wishes he could be buried alongside his deceased wife. Instead, he invents technology—a shroud—that allows people to watch as a body decays in its grave. As Karsh watches his wife rot away, things get weird.
It Feeds
As a psychiatrist, Cynthia (Ashley Greene) is particularly effective thanks to her psychic abilities. However, when a young woman seeks her help to get rid of a dangerous entity that has attached itself to her, Cynthia is reluctant to get involved. But when her daughter is put in danger by the entity, Cynthia has no choice but to face her fears.
