After 25 years, the Wayans family is back in the Scary Movie franchise.

Scary Movie 6 opened to $54 million and closed out its theatrical run with more than $230 million globally before landing its streaming date. It will hit Paramount+ on Sept. 3.

It’s the first entry since “Scary Movie 2” to involve the Wayans family, who left the series after clashing with executive producer Bob Weinstein, the Dimension Films founder. Marlon Wayans credited the “dismantling of the Weinstein regime,” God, and his father’s encouragement for pulling him back after 25 years.

Directed by Michael Tiddes, the movie brings back Marlon Wayans as Shorty Meeks, Shawn Wayans as Ray, Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell, and Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks. Faris and Hall both sat out “Scary Movie 5.”

Marlon Wayans called it a “rebootquel” in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, describing the brothers as “equal opportunity offenders” going after cancel culture, safe spaces, and horror tropes. The reunion of the Core Four is “a conversation comedically that is needed,” he said, with the slasher name-checking recent hits like “Sinners” and “Get Out.”
