Anaconda (1997)

The cult classic featuring Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, and a giant snake is headed to Hulu in May! A remake starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd is scheduled for release later this year, but is really going to top the original?
Attack the Block (2011)

When aliens invade South London, a teenage delinquents take it upon themselves to defend their home. Attack the Block is an endlessly entertaining sci-fi thriller with depth, heart, and humor.
The Wailing (2016)

The Wailing is one of the very best horror movies of the 2010s. It’s about a policeman from a small town who investigates a series of unusual deaths in a nearby village which are linked to an illness that causes victims to be murderously violent. The officer is reluctant to get involved, but when his young daughter is drawn into danger, he becomes desperate to figure out what is really happening in the village.
The Witch: Part 1 – The Subversion (2018)

The Witch: Part 1 – The Subversion is a sci-fi action thriller that gets very dark and bloody. It follows the story of a young woman being hunted by mysterious agents. She displays superhuman powers as she defends herself and her family, but her powers might also be killing her. To say any more would ruin some of the movie’s best moments, but what can be said is that The Witch: Part 1 is excellent.
The Witch: Part 2 – The Other One (2022)

While maybe not as successful as the previous film, The Witch: Part 2 – The Other One is still a good time. The story follows a new protagonist with powers similar to the lead in part one. The action and gory violence is amped up in this sequel, though the character drama takes a step back because of it.

The Damned (2024)

The Damned is a frigid tale of guilt and folk horror. It takes place in a fjord in late-1800s Iceland where a small fishing crew are struggling to survive a poor season. They spot a ship sinking not too far away, but the decision is made to leave the ship’s crew to their fate rather than risk their collective doom by sharing their dwindling supplies. But soon, they realize that their actions might have brought something even worse into their camp.

Into the Deep (2024)

Into the Deep is a very average shark/crime/psychological thriller. Cassidy is trying to overcome her fear of the ocean (specifically the sharks in the ocean) by going on a treasure-hunting expedition with her husband. The boat they’re on is hijacked by drug-runners, leading to Cassidy voluntarily diving in shark-infested waters to retrieve a submerged parcel of illicit goods. There’s a lot more going on than that, but ultimately the movie is an okay shark thriller that has its moments.
