One of the Best Horror Movies of the Year Is Coming to HBO Max This Friday (Oct. 24)

2025 has been a great year for horror movies. So far, we’ve had Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, the Philippou brothers’ Bring Her Back and the surprisingly great sixth Final Destination film, Bloodlines. Now, the latest great release of 2025 is coming to HBO Max just in time for Halloween.

Weapons is a supernatural horror movie written and directed by Zach Cregger, who previously wrote and directed Barbarian. It stars Julia Garner as Justine, a small town third grade teacher who is at the center of a mystery. At 2:17 in the morning one day, all but one of the children in her class ran from their homes and have not been seen since.
The town is suspicious that Justine was involved in the childrens’ disappearances. Weapons tells stories about mystery from the perspective of different townspeople including Justine, one of the children’s father (Josh Brolin), a local police officer, a homeless drug addict and the sole member of Justine’s classroom who did not disappear.

Weapons has been a major success with many fans saying it is their favorite horror movie of the year. It has received mostly positive critical reviews and earned $267 million against a $38 million budget. Zach Cregger has even expressed interest in making a Weapons prequel that tells the origin story of the character of Aunt Gladys.
Weapons will stream on HBO Max beginning this Friday, October 24.
