Ginger was Jennifer’s cult-horror predecessor. Their stories share a striking shape: each teen becomes a monster who preys on boys, and someone close to her has to stop her.
In the 2000 film *Ginger Snaps*, Ginger is bitten on the night of her first period and begins turning into a werewolf. Her sister Brigitte faces what Ginger is becoming. In 2009’s *Jennifer’s Body*, a botched virgin sacrifice turns Jennifer into a demon who feeds on boys, leaving her childhood friend Needy to confront her.
The pairing predates the meme. Screen Rant compared the films’ plots in 2020, and Thrillist called *Ginger Snaps* a precursor to *Jennifer’s Body* in 2021. Neither Diablo Cody nor Karyn Kusama has identified *Ginger Snaps* as an influence on their film.
