The two crushes in question: Casper and Thackery Binx.
In the 1995 film, the friendly ghost whispers “Can I keep you?” to a sleeping Kat Harvey, and the line comes back when he turns human for one night to dance with her, played by Devon Sawa opposite Christina Ricci. HuffPost later called that dance the moment that “truly lit young hearts on fire.”
Over in “Hocus Pocus,” out in 1993, the crush was Thackery Binx, a Salem boy cursed into an immortal cat in 1693 who finally gets his human form back when the Sanderson sisters die at sunrise. “The witches are dead. My soul’s finally free,” he says. E! remembered him as a “hunky ghost” with “long, flowing locks and dreamy blue eyes.”
Sawa, for his part, has made peace with it. “Whatever I do,” he told PEOPLE, “I will always have to say, ‘Can I keep you?’”
