Halloweentown 5 Is in Development!

Though it’s still in early development, the script is being written by Lily Houghton (Forbidden Fruits) and Ryan Koehn (Gossip Girl). The news comes from an article in The Wrap published on Oct. 22, 2026.

This will be the first Halloweentown movie since Return to Halloweentown was released in October of 2006.

The Disney Channel Original Movie film series began in 1998 with Halloweentown. It’s about the Piper family, a family in which magical powers run through its bloodline. Thirteen-year-old Marnie doesn’t know about her lineage because her mother Gwen, who is a witch, would rather live a normal life. But Marnie’s grandmother Aggie, who is also a witch, embraces her heritage. When Aggie returns home to the magical realm of Halloweentown, Marnie and her siblings follow, sparking an adventure and a coming-of-age tale fit for yearly Halloween-season viewings.

Three sequels followed: Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge (2001), Halloweentown High (2004), and Return to Halloweentown (2006).

It will be interesting to see what a new Halloweentown movie focuses on. Debbie Reynolds played Aggie in all of the previous movies, but she sadly passed away in 2016. The rest of the Piper family has also been in all of the previous films, but Sara Paxton replaced Kimberly J. Brown as Marnie in the 2006 film (Brown has said she was available to do the move, but Disney decided to “go in a different direction.” Sara Paxton has said “there’s no beef” between herself and Kimberly J. Brown).
