Write-ups for The Exit State refer to it as a political-horror horror movie. It is set in a near-future where an authoritarian United States government has forced a group of Americans to flee towards Mexico. They stop at a safe house that is supposed to be in neutral territory, but they may never leave.
The specifics of the horror that awaits them is left out of most of the write-ups I’ve seen, so I’ll leave that out of this preview as well. It’s probably better if you experience it yourself.
Gabriela Ledesma directed The Exit State, and she co-wrote the script with Josh George and Callie Schuttera. The cast includes Callie Schuttera, Clayton Farris, Sharon Lawrence, Josh George, Jeremy D. Howard, Nikki Dixon, Stakiah Lynn Washington, and Cindy Nguyen.
The Exit State is now available to rent and purchase on digital platforms including Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and more.
