Ross Hull played Gary, the leader of the Midnight Society on Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and now he’s a meteorologist on Canadian TV. Some of his Global News colleagues discover only later that their weather forecaster used to run the campfire.
At 51, he’s based in Toronto and delivers Global News Morning forecasts for Toronto, Peterborough, Kingston, Montreal and the Maritimes.
Hull played Gary across 68 episodes in 1992–1996 and 2000, returning for “The Tale of the Silver Sight.” His connection to the show began with a different character: David in the pilot, which aired as a Nickelodeon Halloween special on October 25, 1991.
When the series launched on SNICK on August 15, 1992, he was the sole returning member of the campfire cast and became Gary.
“I think that the weight of being the leader was tough,” Hull told People on October 31, 2024.
Decades of recognition followed. “I had no idea that decades later, we would still be talking about the show,” he told Dread Central on August 14, 2023.
After playing Chris Sheppard on Student Bodies from 1997 to 2000, Hull stepped away from acting to finish his education. He earned a radio-and-television degree from what’s now Toronto Metropolitan University and studied meteorology at Mississippi State before joining The Weather Network in 2004.
His broadcasting career took him through Citytv in Calgary, CTV in London and Kitchener, and CBC in January 2013. He joined Global in 2014.
Writing in an August 5, 2024 essay, Hull said, “my real passion now is my current work, as a meteorologist for Global News.” He also explained that he wasn’t keen to return to auditioning.
On October 28, 2026, he was on Global News Morning hosting a fall home-tips segment with Ryan Thompson.
