This is kind of a weird one. I love seeing all the theories and analyses of Obsession. Some I agree with, some I don’t. But one theory that I missed up until now is that Nikki scalped Sarah after killing her, and she’s wearing Sarah’s hair when Bear returns home.
I have to say, this never occurred to me.
Here’s Inde Navarrette’s full response when asked about the theory by Allure (YouTube – Oct. 20, 2026):
“Oh, no. I saw that rumor. I was like, ‘You think Nikki scalped her?’”, Navarrette said. “I mean, hey, I don’t remember doing that. Sounds like something Nikki would do, but no, that is my hair that is curled. But there’s so much damage that has happened to her face, so this area is all bloodied and red.”
Watching the movie, it’s clear that Nikki has made herself up to look like Sarah. She’s wearing Sarah’s clothes, and she’s marked herself with scrawled recreations of Sarah’s tattoos. And yeah, Nikki’s hair IS different from how we’ve seen it before. But it’s still clearly Nikki’s hair, just styled differently. Her hair is a bad imitation of Sarah’s hairstyle, because at that point Nikki thinks Bear will love her if she’s like Sarah.
I get that all the blood and damage on Nikki’s face and forehead combined with the different hairstyle might seem like it’s not her hair, but it is. Plus, we do see a shot of Sarah’s body. Her dress is gone (because Nikki is wearing it), but her hair is still on what’s left of her head. I can’t post the images here for reasons that should be obvious, but if you go back and look, it seems pretty clear. To me it does, anyway.
But like I said, I love that people are theorizing about the movie because that means they’re really into it.
