Stephen King was photographed on Fifth Avenue on Wednesday, November 4, moving toward a waiting car in New York City. As autograph seekers came up to him, the 79-year-old horror author kept walking, dressed in a black turtleneck and trousers, a brown flat cap and bright blue shoes.
New York sightings of King are rare. He lives a quiet life in Maine with his wife, Tabitha, and surfaced in the city for a sold-out book night that evening at St. Ann’s Church in Brooklyn, where he was set to talk with bestselling novelist Emma Straub.
The occasion is a loaded one. Straub is the daughter of King’s late collaborator Peter Straub, who died in 2022. Their final book together, “Other Worlds Than These,” came out October 6 as the conclusion to the fantasy saga that began with “The Talisman.”
King has called finishing it a relief. “It was a big relief, actually,” he told USA Today of closing out both “The Talisman” and “The Dark Tower.” “Robert B. Parker died at his desk, and that didn’t happen to me with this book.”
He’s had a crowded fall beyond the page. Mike Flanagan’s “Carrie,” which King executive produces, premiered on Prime Video on October 7 and was renewed for a second season two weeks later.
Season 2 of “The Institute” lands on MGM+ on November 8.
