Kate Siegel has two jobs on her husband Mike Flanagan’s Carrie: she plays Adelaide, a cult leader, and directed Episode 3, “Social Studies.” The 8-episode adaptation of Stephen King’s 1974 novel premiered on Prime Video on October 7.

You’ll hear Siegel narrating the first 7 episodes before she appears onscreen in the finale. Flanagan says Adelaide’s name appears in the credits but is never spoken in dialogue.

The series stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan as her mother, Margaret.

Siegel and Flanagan’s screen collaborations go back to Oculus in 2013, before they married in early 2016. They also co-wrote Hush, which gave Siegel a leading role.

Her characters span Theo Crain in The Haunting of Hill House, Viola Willoughby in The Haunting of Bly Manor, Erin Greene in Midnight Mass and Camille L’Espanaye in The Fall of the House of Usher.

For Carrie, Flanagan wanted women involved in shaping the story. Siegel, Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick and Hiromi Kamata each directed an episode. He called Siegel’s episode one of his favorites of the series.
