Natalia Dyer will lead the sequel to “1408,” with original director Mikael Håfström returning and production planned for the first quarter of 2027. Elijah Wood is set for a supporting role, while John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson are still negotiating their returns.
If their deals close, Cusack and Jackson are expected to play their original characters in secondary roles. Dyer’s and Wood’s characters haven’t been revealed, and the sequel’s plot is still under wraps. Håfström co-wrote the script with Mark Verheiden.
The 2007 film adapted Stephen King’s 1999 short story. Cusack played Michael Enslin, an author researching haunted hotels who checks into room 1408 at New York City’s Dolphin Hotel to investigate its history of mysterious, violent deaths. Jackson played hotel manager Gerald Olin.

The original earned $132 million worldwide on a $25 million budget. In 2025, Cusack singled it out as a film he’d consider revisiting: “There’s one that I think would be interesting to do, which would be ‘1408.’”
Dyer is known for playing Nancy Wheeler in “Stranger Things.” Wood’s recent horror credits include “The Monkey,” “The Toxic Avenger” and “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.”

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Richard Saperstein of Bluestone Entertainment, Spyglass Media Group and Frank Mayor are producing. Bluestone and FilmNation Entertainment are co-financing the sequel.
