All the Horror Movies Coming to Netflix in May 2025

Seven horror movies join Netflix in May, including one highly anticipated premiere!

Heart Eyes (2025) begins streaming on Netflix on May 8th.

In total, seven new horror movies are joining Netflix’s library in May. A few are older favorites coming back to the platform, and few are newer movies joining for the first time.

The highlight of Netflix’s new horror selection this month is Fear Street: Prom Queen which will hopefully be as much fun as the Fear Street trilogy released on the platform back in 2021. And overall, even though only seven movies mean it’s a lean month for newly-added horror on Netflix, there are some quality films in the bunch.

All the titles and dates in this list are based on information from What’s On Netflix and from the dates listed in the “New & Popular” section of Netflix itself. As with any list like this, all dates and titles are subject to change. Netflix has a habit of releasing movies unannounced, so this list might be adjusted as the month moves along. Keep checking back for the latest updates.

Constantine (2005)

Constantine (2005)
Constantine is based on the Hellblazer comics from DC/Vertigo, though the adaptation is loose.

This neo-noir urban fantasy thriller has become something of a cult classic over the years since its release. Keanu Reeves is great as the title character, John Constantine, and the horror-adjacent dark-fantasy action is a lot of fun.

Dawn of the Dead (2004)

Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Dawn of the Dead (2004) has been on and off of Netflix before, repeatedly rising from the dead to be watched on the streaming service again.

When there’s no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth. Or, in the case of this remake from Zack Snyder and James Gunn, the dead will run a lot. Dawn of the Dead (2004) is an entertaining zombie film that changes quite a lot from George Romero’s seminal 1978 original, which helps make it stand out as a worthy successor to a classic.

Peninsula (2020)

Peninsula (2020)
Yeon Sang-ho directed both Train to Busan and Peninsula.

Peninsula is technically a sequel to Train to Busan (2016), but it is a standalone film that feels like a very different kind of movie. Set a few years after the initial zombie outbreak in South Korea, a small team is sent into a quarantined area to retrieve a truck full of money. The mission goes sideways, exposing the team not only to the zombie threat, but also the dangers presented by people surviving in the wasteland.

Heart Eyes (2025)

Heart Eyes (2025)
Heart Eyes is a combination of a slasher movie and a romantic comedy, set primarily on Valentine’s Day (and night).

Heart Eyes was in theaters just a few months ago, and it fared well with audiences and critics. My personal take is that it’s an okay mainstream slasher, but you can read more about that in my full review of the film. For a slasher streaming on Netflix, it’s absolutely with a watch.

The Haunted Apartment “Miss K” (2024)

The Haunted Apartment "Miss K" (2024)
The original title of The Haunted Apartment “Miss K” is Panggonan Wingit 2: Miss K. So, this is a standalone sequel. The first movie, Panggonan Wingit aka The Haunted Hotel, is also streaming on Netflix. FYI, “panggonan wingit” translates to “haunted place.”

Alma (Cinta Laura Kiehl) is the new manager of an apartment building in Surabaya, the capital city of East Java. She’s been told that the sixth floor is strictly off limits, but an emergency forces her to enter a room on the floor. Now she’s been cursed by the ghosts of a woman and young girl, destined to die within four days. The Haunted Apartment “Miss K” is inspired by an Indonesian urban legend.

Smile (2022)

Smile (2022)
After watching Smile on Netflix, you can watch Smile 2 which is currently streaming on Prime Video and Paramount+.

Smile is a smart and spooky horror with some truly memorable moments. It’s about an entity that attaches itself to a person, torments them with terrifying visions, and then causes them to perform a horrific act in front of someone else to pass its curse along. In this first film in the series, Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) becomes entangled with the entity, and we watch as she tries desperately to find a way out of the curse before she loses her life.

Fear Street: Prom Queen (2025)

Fear Street: Prom Queen takes place in 1988, setting it between Fear Street Part One (1994) and Part Two (1978).

Like the previous Fear Street movies, Prom Queen is rated R, so here’s hoping that it can recapture the dark and dangerous feeling of the earlier films. The story is about a prom queen competition at Shadyside High that becomes deadly after a surprise entrant joins the race. Fear Street: Prom Queen is a standalone story, but it will be interesting to see if any direct connections are made to the characters and stories we’ve already seen.
