If you’re looking for a twisty horror movie to watch this week, there’s a great hidden gem on Tubi that no one talks about. A horror thriller directed by Wes Craven’s longtime editor, Patrick Lussier, Play Dead stars Bailee Madison as Chloe, a criminology student who fakes her death to break into a morgue in order to steal a phone that incriminates her brother. Unfortunately, she discovers that the coroner (Jerry O’Connell) has set up a pretty sick business venture down there.

Play Dead‘s strength is that it is very suspenseful. From Chloe’s risky plan to fake a drug overdose to end up in the morgue to Jerry O’Connell’s performance as a well-dressed psycho — the morgue is a perfect place for a scary game of cat and mouse. It’s hard not to get sucked into the movie and root for Chloe to escape.
To create reasonable expectations around this movie, it has a 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 2.5 on Letterboxd. There’s some aspects of the plot that veer into the corny or ridiculous. But overall, this is a fun watch and since it’s streaming on Tubi, Play Dead is free for anyone to stream.
