After stealing scenes as the affable drug addict James in Zach Cregger’s Weapons (2025) and breaking out as Bryan, the courier caught in a zombie apocalypse in Cregger’s Resident Evil (2026), Austin Abrams is going somewhere even wilder for his next lead role.
In Whalefall, he plays a scuba diver searching the ocean for his father’s remains. He gets swallowed alive by a sperm whale, leaving him with just one hour to find a way to escape before his oxygen runs out.
There is nothing better than a high concept survival thriller.
Directed by Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You) and co-starring Josh Brolin and Elisabeth Shue, Whalefall hits theaters October 16 — and if Abrams’ last two roles are any indication, this one’s going to be a ride.
