Austin Abrams didn’t plan the high-pitched scream that became part of Bryan Hodukavich’s panic in Resident Evil (2026). During a Fantastic Fest interview with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff, the actor said it was “just what comes out” when he played the medical courier trapped in Raccoon City’s early T-Virus outbreak.
Director Zach Cregger, who joined Abrams for the interview, called the sound “a shriek.” Abrams said its first appearance surprised everyone on set, including him, and left him thinking, “Oh my god, it’s really embarrassing.”
The scream fit Cregger’s vision of Bryan as an ordinary man with no combat or survival training. Abrams played those reactions without trying to make the character sound like a conventional action hero.
