Bill SkarsgĂ„rd starred as Eric in the 2024 re-adaptation of James O’Barr’s comic-book series The Crow. I was not a fan of the movie. And no, it’s not JUST because the 1994 movie starring Brandon Lee is one of my favorite movies ever. But this post isn’t about me, it’s about Bill SkarsgĂ„rd and The Crow, a movie that reportedly earned back less than half of its budget while in theaters.
By multiple metrics, The Crow (2024) could be considered a failure. In a recent interview, Bill SkarsgÄrd sat down with Josh Horowitz of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Josh asked Bill if there was a lesson he learned from the experience of starring in The Crow.
Bill started by saying, “I think the lesson was that I’m not signing on to anything without a finished script.”
Bill went on to talk about how surprisingly common it is for movies to get a green light and start setting dates without even having a finished script. He said that the first script wasn’t finished until about two months before they started filming, calling the process “insanely rushed.”
He also did say that he doesn’t regret any of the roles he’s taken. “They could be good experiences, they could be bad experiences. But how you learn from them is really what it’s about,” Bill said.
Personally, I learned that watching The Crow (2024) is a bad experience.
