Beware Boiúna Sinks at the Box Office

That’s a rough start for a limited release, but Beware Boiúna was a wide theatrical release.

Audiences who did see it tended to like it more than not, with it currently sitting at a 70% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with audience scores. Critics were split with 54% on RT.

Which is to say, it doesn’t seem like ratings are the biggest issue here. Maybe it’s a lack of general recognition? I knew about the movie and have been talking about it for a while, but I pay attention to this stuff more than most general audiences (which, if you’re reading this, you probably do too).

Beware Boiúna stars Kiana Madeira (Fear Street) and Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day), and it’s about a crew on a humanitarian mission into the Amazon rainforest and encounter a gargantuan snake. Like, yeah, it sounds like a riff on Anaconda, but that shouldn’t really have hurt the movie either.

What do you think? Did you see Beware Boiúna this weekend?
