Brad Pitt will reprise his role as former United Nations employee Gerry Lane in Paramount’s long-awaited “World War Z” sequel. Edward Berger — the director behind “All Quiet on the Western Front” and “Conclave” — has signed on to direct from a script by Dennis Kelly. The plot is still under wraps.
Pitt will produce alongside Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner through Plan B, with Berger serving as an executive producer.
The sequel reunites Pitt and Berger after A24’s “The Rider,” which wrapped filming earlier in 2026 and is now in post-production.
The original “World War Z” landed in 2013 and grossed more than $540 million worldwide. Directed by Marc Forster and adapted from Max Brooks’ 2006 novel, it followed Lane as he raced to stop a zombie pandemic from consuming the globe.
Paramount confirmed in April that a follow-up was in active development. Getting here wasn’t easy: several earlier attempts stalled out, including a David Fincher version that was scrapped in 2019.
