The new poster for “Victorian Psycho,” shared first by Letterboxd, fills the frame with Maika Monroe’s screaming face under the tagline “The new governess is all the rage.” Bleecker Street opens the film exclusively in theaters November 13.

Monroe plays the eccentric governess Winifred Notty. Her arrival at a gothic manor is accompanied by suspicion that she is not what she seems. The screaming poster follows a July one-sheet of her in Victorian dress gripping a bloodied axe against a crimson backdrop, and an earlier Cannes teaser built around a bloodied spoon and the line “You shan’t forget her.”

Critics have spent the festival run pointing at the same thing. Rotten Tomatoes’ consensus says the movie “thrives on Maika Monroe’s ferocious lead performance,” and reviews out of Cannes and Fantastic Fest keep calling Winifred a career peak.

Josh Korngut at Dread Central, in a four-star review, wrote, “This is a career-best performance from Maika Monroe.” Therese Lacson at Collider said Monroe “gives her best villainous performance to date,” and Luna Gray at iHorror walked out of Fantastic Fest “convinced Maika Monroe owns this movie.”
